This was probably the biggest challenge on the CD as I wanted to take a beautiful and well-known harmonic sequence and really explore how I could paint with sound. The song itself is lyrically a profound look at the passage of time and perspective, and the words inspired me to want to try and create a feeling of clouds of chords and sound supporting the vocals and then transitioning into a waltz, a dance, something that really reflected the power and elegance of Joni’s song.

Here Mark Oblinger, who sings a truly emotional and powerful rendition of the song, joins me.
